The DA20 began in Austria as the DV20, a two-seat development of the HK36 Super Dimona motorglider built by HOAC, the company that later became Diamond Aircraft. The DV20 first flew in 1991, gained certification in May 1993, and made its public debut at the 1993 Paris Air Show.
